2003-01-26//4:06 a.m. Kia Ora- -Neil Finn, Truth, 1998 Things seem to be back up at Diaryland so I'll post what I was going to post last night. First it was dinner at our favourite restaurant, Circles South. It's such a brilliant place. I was anticipating some Fois Gras but with no suitable appitizer we opted for lobster bisque. For dinner V got the salmon with a citrus salsa and a glass of pino grigio, and I got the nut-crusted grouper with burre blanc and tea. And for dessert it was of course creme brule'. We're fucking metropolitan, don't you know! Now that you're privy to our menu, after dinner we went to see a film I was really anticipating, Darkness Falls. It seemed to be on par with The Ring (which was brilliant). And it had a lot going for it going in to the film--a beautiful and eerie seaside town, a long-standing legend, a sinister fiend doing all the supernatural death-from-above, and Emma Caulfield running around in a tank top (*swoon*). However, one thing was missing from this film...IT WASN'T SCARY! Sure, the opening 5 minutes were very promising and scary, but the rest of the film was pretty predictable. Not to say I didn't enjoy the film--it had some totally kick ass scenes. I suppose I just expected too much. Still, it did have Emma Caulfield running around in a tank top (*swoon*). And what is with films and creepy kids lately? Ringu/The Ring, Resident Evil, The Sixth Sense, Signs...in the words of Carol Anne Freeling (Poltergeist), 'They're here!' I dunno, it just seems to be something getting to be one of those horror movie cliches that Hollywood is coming to rely on. Anyhoo, today we got the kittens (Buddy and Poet) to their new home with Kirk's mom. It's really sad to see them out of V's apartment but it will be easier on her/us and we can visit them anytime. After Kirk, Karen, V, and I went to Mr. Eric's (along with Phil, Brian, and Holly), Kirk and I went to find him a Bucs NFC Championship hat (to no luck). We searched around and found nothing, so passing through Sears' paint department we spied some painters caps and got those. We then took a Sharpie and wrote skulls and Bucs logos and stick figure pirates and Superbowl stuff on them and took them back to the house saying, 'Look at the bargain we got on these Bucs hats!. It was all good. After we watched Undercover Brother. Brilliant film. We also ate fried chicken, collard greens, macaroni salad, cole slaw, corn bread, and cobbler. And orange soda while Phil and Eric had 40s (Olde English 800 and Colt 45). Yeah, we're also very offensive. And after leaving there V and I spent a good two hours looking for frozen (or canned) spinach somewhere in Tampa. There are no stores that sell it after midnight--I believe it's a controlled substance. There are no more 24 hour supermarkets in the city and Walgreens, Eckerds, and Wal-Mart don't carry spinach. God, I hate this fucking town. Still, go Bucs! Heart, -N.
