2003-02-10//2:22 a.m. Kia Ora- Billy Corgan,Thirty-Three, 1996
I am watching a quite remarkable film at the moment. It's called Bichunmoo and it was billed at one point as the 'Korean Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'. While it is a fantasy-martial arts film, it only minutely resembles CTHD (for some reason it reminds me more of Brotherhood Of The Wolf), but that doesn't mean it doesn't rock. Some of the scenes are visually striking and, contrary to most reviews I've read, the story is fine. These aren't movies you watch intently to dissect the writing, these are movies you watch to dream to. The film is beautiful and I really recommend it. Other than the moment, we went to Too Jay's for dinner and I got my chopped sirloin steak with mashed potatoes (though I doubt they were instant). As usual it was quite good and we had some coupons which made it even nicer. We explored Bay Street's menus a bit (Bay Street is in the International Plaza's annex but the regular mall was closed). Since V has a doctor's appointment Friday and I have the day off because I work Saturday, we are going to try to have lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and then catch Daredevil. A good Valentine's plan indeed. After dinner tonight we went to see Shanghai Knights. It was as fun as you would expect a Jackie Chan film to be. I really like Owen Wilson as well, he's turning out to be one of my favourite recent actors. And then there's Fann Wong...*sigh*... Ahem. I digress. I suggest you watch it just for the line that Wilson delivers about orphans--that's fucking amazing, perhaps one of my favourite movie moments to date. I'm up a bit later because I go in late tomorrow due to a taping. If your interested, it's about this collection of medievel manuscripts that the library recently received. Apparently there's going to be a huge shindig with the president of USF (Judy Genshaft) and a whole bunch of other important mucky-mucks. It's pretty fascinating as the manuscripts are so rare and so intricate. I suppose my laundry should be done. The movie should have to be finished later.... Heart, -N.
